Who we are

About Colombia Orthopedics

An independent research and patient-coordination service for people considering orthopedic surgery in Colombia. We are based in Medellín, and we are not a clinic.

What we do

We publish the cost and logistics research we wish existed when we started looking at this market, and we help patients take the next step: getting imaging in front of an orthopedic surgeon and getting a written package quote back. That's the whole service.

What we are not

We are not a hospital, a clinic, or a medical practice. We do not diagnose, we do not treat, and we do not give medical advice. No one here is your physician. Everything on this site is general information to help you ask better questions of the people who will be your physicians.

How we make money

We're paid by the facilities we refer patients to, not by patients. That's the standard model in this industry, and you should know it about any medical travel site you read — including this one. It creates an obvious incentive, so here's how we try to keep it honest:

  • We publish price ranges, and we say plainly when we don't have defensible data instead of inventing a number.
  • We don't publish testimonials, patient stories or reviews. If we ever do, they'll be real and labelled as such.
  • We don't name specific surgeons or clinics on this site. We point you at ReTHUS and the accrediting bodies so you can verify anyone yourself.
  • We write the reasons not to travel next to the reasons to travel. Some patients and some cases genuinely should stay home, and we say so.

Our position on Colombian healthcare quality

The claim you'll see everywhere is that the World Health Organization ranked Colombia first in the Western Hemisphere and 22nd in the world. That's real, and it comes from the WHO's year-2000 health system assessment. It is also decades old, and any site presenting it as a current measurement is being sloppy or worse. We cite it as historical context and then point you at things you can check today: hospital-level Joint Commission International accreditation, verifiable through JCI directly, and individual physician registration, verifiable through ReTHUS, Colombia's national health-personnel registry.
